NOTES FROM THE CREW: Nora

2 min read

Hi everyone! It’s Nora, the girl behind the happenings calendar here at BCN! I’ve been working as a volunteer with the Compass for around 6 months now, and I’ve loved my time here so far. I remember picking up the Compass on my T ride home years ago -- it was exactly the news I wanted to read and the events I wished I could go to, so I am beyond excited to be a part of the paper today!

I have always been pretty involved with the art scene in Boston, especially later in high school, when I was pursuing classical music with the intent to play in conservatory. Along the way, though, I found myself falling in love with many different pieces of the art world – I picked up oil painting, planned events at the MFA, started some musicology work, got really (really) obsessed with lo-fi and shoegaze music – and decided to take a step back and soak it all in. So, now I’m here!

I’m currently working on some slow-core-shoegaze-esque music with friends and trying to find joy in music like I used to, while studying music theory and visual art in school. I still make prints, collect vinyl, and pick up new art hobbies that cost me way too much at Blick. Honestly, the greatest thing I’ve learned is that your relationship with art is on your terms and does not have to be professional or performative to be valid!!

Thanks for getting to know me, and for supporting the Compass! Boston is so lucky to have Brain Arts!
